Shepherd's Pie |
INGREDIENTS |
1 1/2 lbs. boiling potatoes
2 cloves garlic
1 tbs. oil
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 tbs. flour
1/2 cup beef stock
1 tsp. allspice
3 tbs. red wine vinegar
2 tsp. worcestershire sauce
1 tbs. butter
1 tbs. milk
salt and pepper |
METHOD |
Position oven rack in top 1/3 of oven and heat to 400 degrees.
1. Cut potatoes into chunks. Put in salted water, bring to boil, cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain.
2. Heat oil in frying pan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
3. Add ground beef to pan and cook until no longer pink. Drain off excess fat.
4. Stir flour into meat.
5. Add stock slowly, then stir in 1 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper, allspice, vinegar, and worcestershire sauce. Cook 1-2 minutes. Pour into 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.
6. Mash potatoes with 3/4 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper, 1 tbs. butter and the milk.
7. Spread potatoes over the meat. Top with some shredded cheddar cheese and paprika.
8. Bake until top is golden, about 25-30 minutes. Allow to set for 10-15 minutes before serving. |
NOTE |
Add some shredded cheddar cheese to meat when putting into casserole dish. |
